Medical Tourism, also known as sightseeing medical care, is defined by the World Tourism Organization as "tourism services themed on medical care, disease and health, rehabilitation and convalescence", which is characterized by high added value and low pollution. From cosmetic surgery to critical surgeries, people can experience the local culture while seeking medical treatment. Overseas Medical Tourism is a new type of cross-border service product that integrates the two major contents of medical care and tourism, providing consumers with one-stop services.
In recent years, Medical Tourism has become one of the fastest-growing emerging industries worldwide. According to the research data from Stanford University in the United States, the growth rate of global Medical Tourism is twice that of the Tourism industry. It is estimated that the revenue of global Medical Tourism will reach 678.5 billion US dollars in 2017, accounting for 16% of the total world tourism revenue, while in 2013, this revenue was 438.6 billion US dollars. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2020, the medical and health-related service industry will become the world's largest industry, while the tourism and leisure tourism-related services will rank second. The combination of the two will account for 22% of the global GDP.

- What is Medical Tourism in China
Earlier, "Medical Tourism" was exclusive to the wealthy. Developed regions such as the United States and Europe are highly favored by mid-to-high-end tourists due to their early technological development. Nowadays, with the maturation of Medical and health care awareness among Chinese residents and the gradual formation of the habit of traveling abroad, seeking medical and health care while traveling has become a new trend. This has accelerated the development of overseas Medical Tourism and it is entering a stage of popularization and platformization.
